Important Implementation Notes:
- The Standard of Sustainable Excellence is effective immediately.
- Effective November 1, 2008, the Standard of Sustainability applies to non-residential projects 50,000 square feet or above and residential projects 50,000 square feet or above and seven stories or more. These projects must meet the intent of LEED at the Certified level. After May 1, 2009, residential projects 50,000 square feet or above, 50 units or more, and six stories or less must also meet the intent of LEED at the Certified level.
The Program establishes three main components: the Green Building Team, the Standard of Sustainability, and the Standard of Sustainable Excellence. The Green Building Team will hold public meetings and address technical issues, review and suggest modifications to the Los Angeles Municipal Code, oversee the Standards of Sustainability and Sustainable Excellence, educate City staff and the public, and provide an annual Green Building Report Card. The Standard of Sustainability establishes a requirement for larger projects to meet the intent of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design® (LEED®) Certified level. The Standard of Sustainable Excellence establishes an incentive program for projects that register with the USGBCs LEED® program, contract with a LEED® AP, and can demonstrate how the project will achieve LEED® certification at a Silver or higher level.
