A series of rock-throwing incidents on downtown Los Angeles freeways has left at least one driver seriously injured and multiple vehicles damaged, sparking concern among motorists and an urgent investigation by the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Authorities say at least three cars were hit by large objects late Thursday night, with one incident resulting in severe injuries to a man in his 70s. The attack occurred around 11:40 p.m. near the westbound 10 Freeway and southbound 110 Freeway junction when a large object, believed to be a cinderblock, crashed through the windshield of his vehicle. The impact left the driver with multiple broken ribs, a broken collarbone, and a collapsed lung. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
A second driver reported a similar attack on the northbound 110 Freeway near Adams Boulevard. While this individual did not suffer major injuries, their vehicle sustained considerable damage after a rock smashed into the windshield.
A third vehicle was also hit in the same area, although details surrounding that incident remain scarce. Authorities confirmed the attack but stated that the driver was not seriously harmed.
CHP officials are actively investigating whether these incidents are connected and whether the projectiles were deliberately thrown at moving vehicles. Given the location and severity of the incidents, law enforcement is exploring the possibility that the objects were hurled from an overpass or a freeway-adjacent area.
