Green Business Certification

Helping commercial enterprises transition to sustainable operations through audits, rebates, and formal state-recognized certifications.

Join the LA Green Business Network

The Los Angeles Green Business Program is a local chapter of the California Green Business Network. By auditing and certification, we assist small-to-medium businesses in reducing water usage, minimizing hazardous wastes, and saving energy.

Benefits of Achieving Certification

Becoming a certified green business is not only beneficial for the environment; it drastically improves commercial competitiveness and operating margins. Benefits include:

  • Reduced Utility Overhead: Certified businesses save an average of 20% on water bills and 15% on energy expenses through targeted efficiency upgrades.
  • Official Recognition: Access to the California Green Business logo for marketing and inclusion on the state-wide consumer directory.
  • Civic Rebates: Direct assistance in claiming water-saving rebates from LADWP and zero-waste incentives from LASAN.

Four Pillars of Green Audits

To receive certification, businesses are audited across four operational metrics:

  1. Energy Efficiency: Transitioning to LED systems, installing smart programmable thermostats, and choosing Energy Star appliances.
  2. Water Conservation: Installing low-flow aerators, repairing leaks, and using drought-tolerant plantings in commercial gardens.
  3. Waste Diversion: Implementing source separation systems, switching to compostable service goods, and eliminating single-use plastics.
  4. Green Purchasing: Sourcing environmentally friendly cleaning supplies (Green Seal certified) and post-consumer recycled paper products.

Enrollment Process

Any commercial shop, office space, restaurant, or light manufacturer with a physical address in the City of Los Angeles is eligible to apply. Auditing is provided at no cost, and financial grants are often available to cover upgrade costs.
